Three exhibition spaces at this gallery serve as a showcase for
the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design students and faculty.
Many NSCAD students show their artwork publicly for the first
time at the Anna Leonowens Gallery.
A critical yet nurturing environment, the gallery is a key component
of a student’s education into the realities of life as a
practicing artist. Though exhibitions are just one week in length,
students participate in the entire professional process of exhibition
application, preparation and installation.
Unique within the Canadian university system, the gallery allows
students to experience the full template for future exhibition
practices, including hosting the very popular Monday night opening
receptions and optional noon hour talks.
The Gallery was named after the Victorian woman who served the
Kind of Siam as governess. Her memoirs were the inspiration for
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I. Leonowens actually
founded the College of Art and Design. Visit the gallery at 1891
Granville Street.
Admission is free.
