This site is historically significant for several reasons, most notably because it was the home of Canada's oldest provincial legislature and of Britain's first overseas self-government. The Georgian-style building first opened in 1842 and was described as a 'gem' by famous author Charles Dickens.

Visitors can learn about the history of the site and the current Legislative Assembly through guided tours, displays and an audio-visual presentation. Province House is open year-round and can be visited at 1726 Hollis Street. Guided tours are available.
